Just as like the way our lovers understand and take care of almost all our needs, bridges do much by holding us up and taking us all the way to the other side. On LA River, one bridge sweeps my heart away. It is called North Broadway Bridge. This is the story of our love.Named after the North Broadway Street, which was conceived in the year 1891. The North Broadway Street was formerly known as the Fort Street. North Broadway was the rest of Fort Street (LAT, 1989). North Broadway Bridge was created by her masters in 1909, and three years later her loveliness was ready to serve the public. She opened her strong structure to traffic on the last days of September 1911 (LAT, 1911). She cost the taxpayer approximately twenty two th ousand to thirty thousand dollars. In order to oversee her completion some people like the then senator Stanford had pledged to contribute five thousand dollars to achieve her beauty. The idea to create North Broadway Bridge came after there was a need to bring a connection to Buena Vista Street and Downey Avenue. Her first name was, in fact, Buena Vista Street Bridge. Her designers Homer Hamlin and Alfred P. Rosenheim named her. This two were the genius behind her beautiful design (Jao, 2013). Their exceptional work gave us the longest form of concrete in California then.Her fame led to overcrowding of traffic, and there was need to bring her a helper. Sad to report that I was not a helper, the help given was North Spring Viaduct. North Spring Viaduct was to help her with a high traffic overflow. It has been said that to enjoy her beauty one cannot be riding on a petroleum powered machine walking is the only way to enjoy her marvel. This explains why walking across the bridge is e pic because of the panoramic view around the bridge.Reinforced with steel and concrete she has a length of nine hundred feet, North Broadway bridge was widened in the year 1939 (LAC, 2013). This was done by removing her southern side walk. Other repairs that she got was a little bit of retrofitting, and she also got her viaducts extensively repaired. Standing at the end of Broadway Street looking at the Buena vista street one cannot help but get hypnotized by the strong looking pillars and the pronounced curvaceous structure of north Broadway Bridge.
